POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing manufacturing processes that support production of products in assembly. This position will utilize a technical skill set to ensure our manufacturing process meets the customers’ requirements, as well as Lean Manufacturing principles to eliminate nonvalue added activity.

  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Safety: Ensures new and existing processes are safe for employees, ergonomically correct, and in compliance with OSHA requirements.
  • Justifies, installs, and qualifies capital equipment.
  • Layout efficient, line balanced production work cells to meet customer demand. 
  • Works with Tool Designers to layout jig and fixture design.
  • Initiate and implement Engineering Change Orders.
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization.
  • Leads improvement teams in developing current and future state value stream mapping. 
  • Implement Improvement projects with the use of Kaizen, Six Sigma, 5-S, Standard Work, and other Continuous Improvement (C.I.) tools.
  • Consults with Project Engineers on design for manufacture of customer product.
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of materials, parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards. 
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.  
  • Leader of the technical team in the fab area.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Project Management Experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, both oral and written.

Desired:

· Lean Manufacturing Certification

· Assembly Process Development, line balancing, tooling, and fixturing

· Experience in Fabrication and CNC Machining

· Solidworks CAD design

LOU-RICH TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

· Applicable training will be completed by following the syllabi (Human Resources, Safety, IFS - Timeclock, IFS - Navigation, ISO) for each new hire and that will be verified by the Employee Orientation & Job Qualification form within the first 60 days of employment. Additional applicable training will be completed by following the individual’s assigned department training matrix, Engineering (F4400-037).

· Follow training syllabus (Technical from above list). Effectiveness of training guidelines will be determined by employee knowledge and demonstration of learned concepts. Additional training after the first several weeks of on-the-job training will be determined by the Supervisor in preparation to operate on their own as needed. Any follow-up training will be evaluated and provided at the 60-day review or as deemed necessary for the position.
